Hi LindaM - For best performance, this hood is designed to be vented vertically using a 7" round duct or a 3 1/4” x 10” rectangular duct or horizontally using a 3 1/4” x 10” rectangular duct but can be used with 6" round pipe. Thanks for choosing GE. Enjoy! Sue
