“do I have to vent a hose through a window for this unit”

Hi yetta - Thanks for viewing GE Model APWA12YZBW! Yes, this model has a single hose exhaust for double hung and sliding windows types. Fits windows 20"- 46" wide, minimum height 4.8". Portable Air Conditioners with a single hose pull air from within the room only, and expel warmed air and moisture outside. You have to vent it to the outside somehow. Whether it's through a window, hole in the wall that leads to the outside (i.e old wood stove vent) or through a chimney/fireplace that isn't being used and that is clean/free from debris.

Yes! If you do not use this it will pump all the heat it removed right back into the room. It will come with a window installation kit and ventilation hose but will not provide weather stripping to seal everything closed.
