Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The chemically based cooling system can operate at a lower temperature(below 50 degrees). These types of cooling systems require heating of the chemicals to create the cooling. If the freezer is not intended to operate at certain cold temperatures, the heating element cannot offset the cold outside temperature to provide enough heating of the chemicals that create cooling. The system itself is complex but this is what I understand to be the case. Cost more for a reason.
