Hi Cyndy - Thanks for considering GE! Yes, the air conditioner can be installed without the side panels if necessary to fit in a narrow window. Dimensions are: 14 1/2 H x 19 W x 19 13/16 D. With accordion side panels, fits windows 25"/36-5/8" wide. If you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to ask, we are also happy to help at GEAppliances.com. Keep in touch! Sue

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm not at home right now so I can't measure the unit but I looked up the specs on the GE web site and it states its width is 19 inches. Without the side panels that gives you some wiggle room. You won't be able to use the side panels but the unit comes with foam side panel covers that you can cut to fit so It should fit your window. I will say I like ours. It replaced a 7 year old Frigidaire that we never really liked because it didn't have a drain. The GE does but you have to remove the plug and they don't mention it in the manual. It is also quieter and does a better job of maintaining an even temperature the room, Setting up the Wifi is a bit cumbersome but once done you can monitor energy use, temperature and even the weather.
