Hello and thanks for your interest in this great air conditioner. It must be plugged directly into the outlet. It requires a 115/120-volt AC, 60-Hz grounded outlet protected with a 15-amp time-delay fuse or circuit breaker. If we can assist further, please let us know. -Gina@GEA
