Hi - Thanks for choosing GE Model AHP12LZ! The air filter can be washed with warm, soapy water. Rinse and let the filter dry before replacing it. The air filter behind the front grille should be checked and cleaned at least every 30 days or more often if necessary. The filter indicator light will come on after 250 hours of operation as a reminder to clean the filter. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The filter is washable. There is a filter light that will tell you when the filter needs to be cleaned. How often will depend on location in house. My ground floor filter needed to be cleaned after 2 to 3 weeks. My attic floor filter has not needed to be cleaned yet. Tip, I clean mine by using my kitchen sink sprayer. Spay water through screen from the back side on low pressure and lightly dry with a soft towel.
