When I use the unit I toke both panels out. I move the middle panel to one side and fill the gap (about two inches) with a folded wash cloth. It works really well. I've decided to keep my unit and I've thought about cutting one of the side panels to fit. A hacksaw and a fine file would probably take care of it. But since I take the hose out each time, I think it's much easier for me to just use the wash cloth, since the overlapping window frame means I'd have to unlock and slide the panel back with each use. I certainly wouldn't cut the side panels unless I was sure of every measurement and how it would affect the end result. AND I wouldn't cut anything unless I was sure I didn't want to return it.

We hate to hear you had trouble with the hose adapter opening being covered, and know that would be frustrating. We would like to assist. You are correct that for openings from 20” to 33”, one of the side panels should be used, while for openings from 33” to 46”, both panels should be used. When you actually install the window kit, the cam locks should be facing you and the panel or panels should be slid outward to fill the opening, then locked in place using the cam locks. More detailed instructions on installing, including diagrams, are available in the manual; the information on installing the window panels starts on page 11. If you are not able to get the panel issue fixed based on this information, the side panel can be cut to remove excess length. If that is necessary, using a box cutter or good quality shears would work. We hope this information is helpful. If you have any other questions or concerns, we are always glad to help. -Sarah@GEA
