I have never drained it. I think the cold water is used in cooling. Don't set it on dehumidify and you will be fine. I would drain it periodically, but have had not drained it in 3 weeks with no ill effects.

Typically, when left on Cool mode, the unit will not need emptied as the water collected is repurposed to cool the internal components and help the unit run more efficiently. When it is first run or on extremely humid days, it may require emptying. Keep in touch! - JB
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I live in Orlando, Florida. When running COOL and LOW FAN there are days all throughout the year that I have to empty the 5-gallon bucket that I have this Portable AC draining into! I have the AC placed on a sturdy low to the floor table, which is just a bit higher than the bucket I am using to collect the drainage. I have had many 24-hour periods that have filled my 5-gallon bucket slightly MORE THAN HALF FULL! And yes, I have verified it was on cool, not dehumidifier. Also, I am fanatical about keeping my flimsy filter and other accessible parts clean, if needed. My AC was brand new when it started doing this and continues as such, much like other units do as well.
