“Since this is portable and needs to be vented, what extra work has to be done to use in one room or another? Is the window vent plate (set up) easy to move as the unit moves from room to room? Thinking living room in day and bedroom at night.”

This is exactly how I use the device. It is very easy to remove from the window. The window mount is a slider, so it can fit different size windows, which is what I have from the living room to bedroom. And if you want a more permanent location, it has screw holes to be mounted.
