Hello - The Reset Filter notification light on the control panel indicates when it is time to change the charcoal filter. The indicator does not detect when the charcoal filter is dirty. This is simply a timed function to remind you to change the filter. The charcoal filter should typically be changed every 6 to 12 months, when it is noticeably dirty or discolored or when the Reset Filter indicator light comes on. For help with changing the filter, please follow the instructions in the "Charcoal Filter" section on pg. 28 of the owner's manual. Thanks for being part of the GE Appliances family. Take care. -Don@GEAppliances
