“If I want to put this microwave into a cabinet with a door on it, do I need to give 2" of clearance on the left & right sides of the microwave? Do I need to leave any space behind for the plug? Or is that already included in the 12 7/8" deep dimension?”

I don't know why you would need to have a 2" clearance on either side other than so the unit doesn't get too hot? With the door to the micro completely open it still maintains it's exact measurement. If that makes any sense. Anyway, the 12 7/8" measurement does not include the plug. The microwave including the plug takes up about 14" on the shelf. Good luck. I love this microwave. It's sleek and clean looking and fits nicely in my pantry shelf which is 16" deep.
