• Hello Jman. This is Lida with GE Appliances. The PEM31SFSS is a good replacement for the PEM31SMSS. They share the same cut-out requirements, so the new model will fit into the existing space. You will, however, need to replace the old trim kit with the one specified for the new PEM31SFSSS. These built-in kits are model specific because of how they attach to the microwave itself and must be replaced. I hope this helps!
