• Hi Nancy- The freezer compartment cannot be turned off. Moving the control to OFF stops all cooling. To defrost, simply turn the control to the Off position. Defrosting usually takes a few hours. To defrost faster, keep the door open. Also, pouring warm water on the frosted part may speed defrosting.
