It can be removed as its just software and not hardware. look under programs and if you can't find it there then you could look for a third party software removal tool to get rid of it. It's pretty cpu intensive and eats up a good chunk of memory too. I would also give co-pilot the boot as well. Both are useless and resource hogs. btw windows will sometimes reinstall it with some of their bigger updates so I always check after a requested windows update restart. cheers!
