I own both and I think it depends on how you want to use it. Both require power and wireless home network. Chromecast needs a PC, tablet, or phone to cast netflix, hulu you tube, etc....It does not work well with apple based products. You can cast from apple products but apple does not support casting from the most common apps such as playing movies or music that were purchased from itunes. You would need to convert these files into another format to cast them. if you do not use itunes or apple products, you would be happy with Chromecast. Apple TV is best when you also use apple products but does have advantages even if you do not have an apple account. The apple device can play netflix, showtime, hbo go, and about 30 other channels without the need of having another PC, phone or tablet connected to cast which is better from chromecast in that you need to use another device to cast hbo go etc. The way it works is that you go through and authorize your apple tv for each channel which is a time consuming onetime process. For example, you pay for hbo through verizon fios. From apple TV, you can log into your verizon account and authorize the device to play HBO. It is the same process for each channel...showtime, fox tv. For non TV items such as HULU or Netflix, you log in through apple tv. Once you go through this setup, all you need is the apple tv device to play it to the TV through your TV and your wireless connection. for apple users, you can also access all of the music and movies on your icloud, ipad, iphone, or itunes library on your PC.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Chromecast doesn't have an interface. This means that it requires a smartphone or tablet to work. Apple TV, on the other hand, is a complete media streamer. it ships with several pre-installed apps, so you can use it without the need for a smartphone or tablet. There's a good range of apps including Netflix, Sky News, Sky Sports Now TV (day-pass required), Flickr and YouTube. In addition, you can access all of your music and videos stored on your home computer via iTunes Home Sharing, and all of your Apple TV, movies and music via the cloud. It even integrates with iCloud, so you can view your Photo Stream on the TV. But you need to decide which one could work for you depending on your needs. You can connect you computer wireless using Chromecast and the Chrome browser. Also, the Chromecast connects to different Apps using your phone or tablet. For instance if you have a HBO GO in your tablet or phone, when you open the HBO GO App you can connect it to the Chromecast and watch any of the HBO GO programs in the big screen. Same with Youtube and some other Apps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Apple TV is a stand alone device that allows you to stream content from Itunes as well as your apple devices via AirPlay. Apple TV is about $100 Chromecast will need something to connect to it to stream content like web browser, Android phone, iphone etc. Chromecast is about $30
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I believe the difference is that you need to use the ipad and iPhone as a remote with Chromecast also you rely on the available apps for Chromecast. Apple Tv is a converter and has a remote. I hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. From what I was told Apple TV is about $60-$70 more and it will mirror what is on your Iphone. With Chromecast you need to download Apps to work through. The easier navigation is the biggest difference.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Apple TV works best with iPhones and iPads, chromecast is best with android phones and tablets.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Chromecast won't stream your music/videos from iTunes while using the iPad or iPhone (may work using a laptop/computer, but I haven't tried). Apple TV also has more built in apps and can run on its own. You must use a phone, tablet, laptop, computer to operate Chromecast. If you aren't an Apple user Chromecast should work great. If you have everything with Apple then the Apple TV is probably the better option.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Chromecast is less expensive and simple to use, whereas Apple TV works seamlessly within an Apple environment.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. In theory they are pretty much the same. You can use Hulu plus and Netflix with both. The biggest difference is where you can purchase Movies & TV shows from. Apple TV lets you purchase from iTunes and Chromecast is from "Google". Lastly Apple TV integrates with all of your iTunes accounts so you can play your iTunes music through your TV.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Apple TV is only for Apple devices chromecast is for any devices included apple. Love Chromecast, plus is a lot cheaper
