That button is used to factory reset the Chromecast. If you ever experience issues with the Chromecast connecting, you would use that button during the troubleshooting process. I've never had to use it, but I was curious what is was for as well, so I investigated.

Then disconnect the USB power cable. Wait a few seconds. Connect the USB cable again. This will factory reset Chromecast (factory data reset).
