“If I buy 3 cameras and install them in multiple rooms and haven't configured any monitoring schedule or recording schedule. Does it record continuously or is scheduling mandatory? From privacy standpoint, what can be done when there are people in the home”

The cameras do not record anything unless you subscribe to Nest Aware. The subscription cost is $100/year to save the last 10 days of live video or $300/year to save the last 30 days of live video.. If you do not subscribe, you can view the live stream from you camera, but nothing is recorded. You can schedule when your camera will turn on and off during the day if there are standard times you want privacy, or you can bring the cameras up on your mobile device and simply turn them on and off as you wish.

The cameras are motion sensored so you will get an app alert everytime it is triggered unless it out turn it off. Also has a light indication you can also switch off. You can also turn the camera off when you need or want to.

Also, they can be set to recognize when your phone is at home and automatically turn off and back on when you leave. Records continuously when the cameras are on but you will need to buy a storage plan if you want more than 3 days of storage.

Through the application, you can turn EACH camera ON and OFF as needed when home is occupied. Also, since the units are instant connect without any intervention, sometimes I just unplug cameras. Easy but probably better to use app.
