The silicone covers aren’t necessary in my opinion, obviously for anyone with a white home or areas you might place them you would not want to put it in an area that doesn’t match. With the cameras being a stock color of white, those silicone cover merely are for color matching with the location you might be installing them. Sure the covers may add some weatherproofing but they’re already weatherproof so it’s not completely necessary other than camouflage for your camera and color of your home. Mine have been blasted in snow and rain storms up in the Northeast and I haven’t had one issue or concern.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. These are outdoor cameras and they have great night vision. I have one camera mounted under an eave and one under a covered patio. The instructons say to keep it out of direct sunlight. The only issue I had is the camera under the eave is set back towards the wall. If the camera is tilted too far up (as to look further in the horizon), the Infrared LEDs reflect off of the eave causing a haze to the night time image.

I liked that Nest Exterior Camera IQ has night vision and can zoom in and follow motion, with improved face recognition. The Nest skin covers help with extreme weather conditions like hot desert or cold climates, which I found an IQ new model release video that I had seen that-but isn’t sold via bestbuy.

I don’t recall the Nest cameras having silicone skins, but Arlo cameras are both outdoor rated and also have silicone skins to add more protection (keeps ice out of the battery door crack). Nest cameras all have night vision in my experience. I had two of these on order, but had to cancel when they didn’t ship on time. I may reorder in the future.
