“We have 2 Nest thermostats, 2nd generation - if we’re running the a/c and set the temperature to 70, the Nest doesn’t kick on the a/c until the temperature is 72 degrees, then runs until 69 degrees. Does the 3rd generation fix this issue?”

That is not an issue, it's an efficiency feature. Starting and stopping cost money. It will also do that based in the temperature outside, it knows if the house may be warmer or cooler later. Make sure you have it in cool mode only.

Please try again later.I do not have a Nest 2nd Generation, so I can't talk to whether this is a bug in your specific thermostat or not; but I do not see this behavior at all with the Nest Thermostat 3rd Generation. You may want to check your Airwave setting if the 2nd generation has this; this can lead to slightly off temperatures.

From what i've noticed, depending on the time and electricity demand the thermostats will cool to a lower temperature to keep the home cooler, longer when it's likely cheaper. Hope this helps.
