“What happens when the battery goes dead -- does it start to chirp like the old smoke detectors??”

• I haven't had them long enough to go through a set of batteries but the detector runs checks on itself everyday. Using the Nest app I can check the status of those self checks and I would expect that the app would alert me when the batteries are getting low.

• Yes. Nest Protect will chirp when the battery is low and needs to be replaced. It'll also pulse yellow when you turn off the lights at night. You’ll get a message during Nightly Promise and the Nest app will notify you.
