Yes this device is sensitive enough to pick up anything and very accurate.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It shouldn't unless you're streaming the smoke straight into the unit. I wanted to test my Nest Protect with actual smoke, not just the test button, because I wanted to see how it would behave in an actual alert situation, not just test mode. I did this by lighting a candle, and immediately blowing it out, and streaming the smoke directly into the Nest Protect. I had to repeat this several times to get the Nest Protect to alarm. First it notifies with a yellow ring that smoke is detected. I had to repeat my candle process a couple more times to get it into full alert mode. That being said, the units seem to be configured smart enough to not alarm on transient smoke.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think so, my neighbor smokes and it has detected it one when the windows were open. (They live very close).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. They will go off from the toxic fumes of the cigarettes that are being used. I would refrain from using cigarettes in the house. Not only are they poisoning the lungs, harming others with second hand smoke, proven to be a fire risk; they are also pulling the value of your house down. (Even if it has been “professionally cleaned”).
