No, however, you will not get notifications via smartphone if it's not connected the the Nest app. The purpose for a "smart" fire/CO device is to alert you when not at home via the app. In addition, it has other feature like automatically checking the devices batteries and sensors. The device will always alert you locally with an audible alarm for fire or CO, even without WiFi/internet. Here is an excellent article: https://www.howtogeek.com/362600/will-the-nest-protect-still-work-without-a-wi-fi-connection/ Here is the Nest Protect setup guide: https://nest.com/support/article/How-do-I-connect-my-Nest-Protect-Wi-fi-and-my-Nest-Account
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It will function as a normal smoke alarm if there is no wifi. I believe the head's up feature will still work as well. But wifi is not necessary for basic protection.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Nest Protect does not require a network connection in order to alert you of smoke or CO in the home. With that said, if you choose to install more then one of these in the home, we would suggest connecting them all through the app at first so they can all interconnect properly to ensure that they all go off if one of them detects smoke or CO.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is not necessary to be hooked up to the WiFi for them to work. They are functional without the WiFi. However, be sure to consider having them hooked up to the WiFi. They are able to self diagnose themselves for sensor errors, low battery, and location of which alarm is going off in an unlikely event that smoke opacity is low enough. I’ve also learned that nest fire alarms will connect to your lawn sprinklers, so your unfortunate event of a house fire will not be carried over to the neighbors home.
