NEST Protect comes in two models, Wired and Battery. Unfortunately these are an either or setup not and.. If you buy batter powered you cannot set it up in a wired setup. I will say the batteries that come with it last a very very long time. I installed the Nest a couple of years ago and only replaced batteries once. If you have the nigh light feature on it may reduce to like once a year depending but the battery setup is very solid.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have them installed in my home, I only use batteries, they last a long time and they let you know via your phone app if they start to run low. I don’t see why you couldn’t wire them at a later date. I never looked into wiring them as it was easier to install them as I needed without worrying about wires.
