“If you buy the Pixel via the 24 month purchase plan ( not the 2 yr service plan) are there other charges applied by VZW? In the past I have been surprised with "activation fees' or "upgrade fees" or increases in "access fees". Do any of these apply?”

I paid an activation fee to Verizon. And the least expensive Verizon plan with any smart phone starts at $40 per month plus taxes and fees plus whatever data plan you get. Nobody pays $40 per month. We have 4 people on our plan with 12 Gig data and our bill is $300 plus every month. 4 phones X $45 = $180 plus $120 for 12 gig data = $300 plus fees and taxes. Our bill is between $315 and $340 every month. Unlimited data would run us about $350-360.
