The level on the side has two ideal sections. the dark blue is for 3+ months and the light blue (smaller area for ideal recline) is 0+ months so I would say that a newborn fit. The inner most padding is fairly tight. I guess the only downside would be if you were to go out you would have to hold the baby unless you have one of those wrap/backpack style carriers.

With the newborns you often go to doctors appointments and u need something that clicks in and out of the car. This one doesn’t. So you won’t be comfortable removing and placing back a newborn out and inside the car.
