Thank you for your inquiry. The Carbon pre-filters are 1/8th of an inch thick. Their main function is to catch the larger particles and to capture some of the Odors and VOCs in the air. We do have an alternative to the A pre-filter. The A+ pre-filter is the same thickness, but comes with zeolite built into it to be better at reducing Odors and VOCs from the air. The HEPA filters are made of fiberglass strands and is made to capture the smaller particles in the air, such as the smoke particles.
