There’s no white dust with the warm mist humidifier. We had that problem with the cold mist humidifier. It also shuts off automatically when the water tank is empty.

That's from hard water. Minerals precipitate out as it evaporates and that's what causes the white dust. You can use distilled, or reverse osmosis water to eliminate the problem.
