• If you shut it off manually wait a few seconds to allow water still in the system but not yet in the tank to empty. You can probably hear the remaining water dripping into the tank. Then remove the tank carefully and empty it.

• Mine does not. I had that same trouble with my last one. That was a Frigidaire. I was happy that my new Honeywell did not. I'm sorry this is happening to you. It makes a mess of things.
