  • QuestionWhat is the advantage of a built in pump?

    Asked by Oscar.

    • Answer Dehumidifiers without a built in pump rely on drainage into the bucket or on gravity when the drainage hose is connected. Dehumidifiers with the pump allow drainage without being gravity dependent, in other words water drains in upward direction if necessary. I like the Honeywell model that I purchased from Best Buy. It was easy to set up! The product is very powerful and had has been running in my basement for a few weeks now, humidity level is < 30%. Damp musty smell is finally gone.

  • QuestionI have been running the dehumidifier for 6 hour straight and it will not get below 50% Humidity. I have it set at 45%. Is there a reason it will not get to 45%? Will it shut off at 45% and then restart when it goes above?

    Asked by Knight1103.

    • Answer A1 - Maybe the dehumidifier capacity (pints) is not adequate for room size? A2 - I believe the unit is continuously monitoring humidity, so the evaporator may turn off, but the rest of the unit will stay on. Use timer mode if you want to shut off completely.

  • QuestionDo you have to enable the smart app or can you use this without it?

    Asked by Star.

    • Answer You can easily use it without the smart app. I tried it out for half a day without the app. I did eventually sync it with the app because it offers useful scheduling features, but I don't use the Alexa or Google integration. There's a near identical unit from Honeywell that doesn't have Wifi capability that sometimes sells for a little cheaper, so if you don't want those features perhaps take a look at that one. At the time I purchased my unit, the wifi capable and the non wifi capable units were selling for the same price.

  • QuestionDoes the honeywell Dehumidifier automatically Stop Running When the Humidity Level gets Lower Then the Designated Level ?

    Asked by SSBLADES.

    • Answer The dehumidifier doesn't seem to shut off unless you use the Honeywell Air Comfort App. In the App, you can establish rules to turn on and turn off based on conditions. The app is intuitive; I have my dehumidifier set to turn on every four hours and turn off when it reaches desired humidity. I hope this helps.

  • QuestionDoes this unit automatically defrost? Manual defrost? Can it freeze up? Thanks

    Asked by RobGarageman.

    • Answer For Model TP30AWKN, TP50AWKN and TP70AWKN: From the User Manual Page 12 Automatic Defrost Frost may build up on the internal coils of the unit. When there is frost build up, the internal compressor will turn off and the fan will continue to run until the frost has melted. Once the internal coils have defrosted and dried, the compressor or fan will automatically restart and dehumidifying will resume. Hope this helps.

  • Questioncan i leave it on to run continuously for ever, if I set it up to drain to a sink? How often the filter needs to be cleaned/changed?

    Asked by Budz.

    • Answer Yes, you can run the unit continuously. The 'filter' (a metal screen like a window screen) will need to be removed and rinsed periodically (for me, once in a month). The unit will trigger the 'clean filter' light on the control panel based on what I assume is some computed run time as my filter wasn't dirty when the light came on. To reset the 'clean filter' light, just press the button adjacent to that indicator light. I don't believe having the 'clean filter' light on will prevent the unit from operating normally. Unless your unit is in a very dusty environment, you should be able to run for at least 30-60 days before the filter really needs rinsing off.

  • QuestionThe air coming out of the top vent is quite warm. Is this normal?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Ours blows out warm air too. I believe it is normal as many reviews mentioned the same thing and the manual also mentions it in the top paragraph on the third page. The manual can be found online, and your booklet should have the website listed for finding it.

  • QuestionHow big of an area does this do. Will it do 1000 square foot basement and does a drain hose come with this if so how long is it

    Asked by Bookworm.

    • Answer According to the specs, a 30 pint capacity unit typically works for rooms up to 1,500 sq ft. This is a 70 pt unit. The recommended rooms size is 4004 sq ft. You can find this information in the specifications page. Also the drain hose is approximately 2’ long. Hope that this helps you.

  • Questionshould water still fill the container even with hose attached to drain into sump pump?

    Asked by Mk.

    • Answer The tank should not fill up with water if the hose is sloped properly. If any part of the hose slopes upward above the hose outlet, water will flow backwards into the bucket. Pull the hose down to the hose guide to make sure that it stays below the hose outlet.

  • QuestionI have a 2800 SqFT warehouse I'm looking to cool. Cooling systems seem to only work in dry climate (I am in Philly). Will this unit kick out hot air negating its purpose?

    Asked by JohnnySoze.

    • Answer It adds heat to the room. Honeywell spec says "5 amperes", or 600 watts (think of the heat from 10 incandescent 60-watt bulbs). A similar Honeywell model is 759 watts, so thats a lot of heat when the refrigeration section is running. So most definitely Yes, it will kick out heat that your cooling system will have to overcome. Output temperature of the air is not a good indicator of the actual heat being put into the room, as low flow would feel like warm air while high output airflow might actually feel cool, both with the same amount of heat (and effect on room temperature). It's a major problem with hot, humid areas that use a/c for cooling, which is most applications!

  • QuestionI bought a 30 pint dehumidifier for my basement. I will gravity drain it in my condensate pump. Is the 30 pint too small? I am not concerned with the capacity as I am the motor size. Do I need to buy the 70 pint to get a stronger motor?

    Asked by Sam.

    • Answer Yes, you should get a 70 pint dehumidifier to get a stronger motor. The important thing to note here is that the pint rating of the dehumidifier refers to the amount of water the unit can remove from the air in one day, it is independent of the tank capacity. Tank capacity does not matter at all if you use the drain hose into a floor drain. Tank capacity can be an issue if you don't use a floor drain and manually empty the tank. More pints means a larger stronger motor on your dehumidifier. I purchased the 70 pint unit for my 1300 sq. Ft basement, it may be a little bigger than I need but I wanted a stronger motor for a longer life.

  • QuestionWhat is the maximum length of an attached hose for continuous drainage. (Properly sloped.)

    Asked by Lou.

    • Answer I would defer to the included hose length that comes packaged with the dehumidifier. I do not use the hose myself I empty the tank when it fills up but if I did use it I would think a 10-12 foot length ( properly sloped ) would be okay IMO.

  • QuestionCan you take the wheels off to fit into a space

    Asked by Rd.

    • Answer if you look carefully, the mounting brackets for the compressor project below what appears to be the bottom of the unit, and they are not centered. if you took the wheels off you would only gain about 1/4 inch and the unit would tip easily. Do not recommend taking the wheels off.

  • QuestionReceived the unit today. But it is only blowing hot air. What am I doing wrong?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer You did nothing wrong and the machine is probably working fine. The warmer air you are experiencing is dry air being forced out of the unit. Our dehumidifier does the same thing and when it is not blowing warmer air then it is not pulling as much moisture out of the air. I believe the instruction manual explains the reasoning behind the warm air. We have had our machine for about a month and on very humid days it pulls a lot of water out of the air. I highly recommend reading the full instruction manual which is online. The start-up booklet will have the information.

  • QuestionWhat temperature should I put. Higher temp set up is better?

    Asked by Gatu.

    • Answer Humidity reading should be less than 50 I believe so ideally 30-50 if you are talking about the setting on the dehumidifier. If so, the lower the better (less humidity in the air) but that also means the unit works harder/longer to accomplish that goal. Hopefully that helps

  • QuestionPicture does not show which side the drainage hole is on. I need one where the drainage is on the left side and the air vent is on the top or right side.

    Asked by Di.

    • Answer If you're looking at the back of the unit, the drainage hole is on the right. The air vents out the top.
