Backed by our outstanding warranty, the Honeywell Energy Star 70-pint (50 Pint 2019 DOE Standard) smart dehumidifier removes moisture with less energy than conventional dehumidifiers, saving energy costs! This unit removes up to 30 pints of moisture daily from medium to large rooms such as basements, dens, and storage rooms. The continuous drain option increases flexibility by allowing you to continuously drain the condensate water for long unattended operation (drain tube included). The digital humidistat control system automatically senses room moisture levels and activates dehumidification to accurately maintain desired humidity levels. Wi-Fi connected with Amazon Alexa voice control, you can monitor the humidity in your home from almost anywhere. It is compatible with Apple iOS9.0 (or later) and Android version 4.3 (or later). A 2.5 GHz Wi-Fi connection is required to operate the Smart Dehumidifier App and remote features.
Q: What is the advantage of a built in pump?
A: Dehumidifiers without a built in pump rely on drainage into the bucket or on gravity when the drainage hose is connected. Dehumidifiers with the pump allow drainage without being gravity dependent, in other words water drains in upward direction if necessary. I like the Honeywell model that I purchased from Best Buy. It was easy to set up! The product is very powerful and had has been running in my basement for a few weeks now, humidity level is < 30%. Damp musty smell is finally gone.
A: A1 - Maybe the dehumidifier capacity (pints) is not adequate for room size? A2 - I believe the unit is continuously monitoring humidity, so the evaporator may turn off, but the rest of the unit will stay on. Use timer mode if you want to shut off completely.
Q: Do you have to enable the smart app or can you use this without it?
A: You can easily use it without the smart app. I tried it out for half a day without the app. I did eventually sync it with the app because it offers useful scheduling features, but I don't use the Alexa or Google integration. There's a near identical unit from Honeywell that doesn't have Wifi capability that sometimes sells for a little cheaper, so if you don't want those features perhaps take a look at that one. At the time I purchased my unit, the wifi capable and the non wifi capable units were selling for the same price.
A: The dehumidifier doesn't seem to shut off unless you use the Honeywell Air Comfort App. In the App, you can establish rules to turn on and turn off based on conditions. The app is intuitive; I have my dehumidifier set to turn on every four hours and turn off when it reaches desired humidity. I hope this helps.

Q: Does this unit automatically defrost? Manual defrost? Can it freeze up? Thanks
A: For Model TP30AWKN, TP50AWKN and TP70AWKN: From the User Manual Page 12 Automatic Defrost Frost may build up on the internal coils of the unit. When there is frost build up, the internal compressor will turn off and the fan will continue to run until the frost has melted. Once the internal coils have defrosted and dried, the compressor or fan will automatically restart and dehumidifying will resume. Hope this helps.
A: Yes, you can run the unit continuously. The 'filter' (a metal screen like a window screen) will need to be removed and rinsed periodically (for me, once in a month). The unit will trigger the 'clean filter' light on the control panel based on what I assume is some computed run time as my filter wasn't dirty when the light came on. To reset the 'clean filter' light, just press the button adjacent to that indicator light. I don't believe having the 'clean filter' light on will prevent the unit from operating normally. Unless your unit is in a very dusty environment, you should be able to run for at least 30-60 days before the filter really needs rinsing off.
Q: The air coming out of the top vent is quite warm. Is this normal?
A: Ours blows out warm air too. I believe it is normal as many reviews mentioned the same thing and the manual also mentions it in the top paragraph on the third page. The manual can be found online, and your booklet should have the website listed for finding it.
