You did nothing wrong and the machine is probably working fine. The warmer air you are experiencing is dry air being forced out of the unit. Our dehumidifier does the same thing and when it is not blowing warmer air then it is not pulling as much moisture out of the air. I believe the instruction manual explains the reasoning behind the warm air. We have had our machine for about a month and on very humid days it pulls a lot of water out of the air. I highly recommend reading the full instruction manual which is online. The start-up booklet will have the information.
