Yes, you should get a 70 pint dehumidifier to get a stronger motor. The important thing to note here is that the pint rating of the dehumidifier refers to the amount of water the unit can remove from the air in one day, it is independent of the tank capacity. Tank capacity does not matter at all if you use the drain hose into a floor drain. Tank capacity can be an issue if you don't use a floor drain and manually empty the tank. More pints means a larger stronger motor on your dehumidifier. I purchased the 70 pint unit for my 1300 sq. Ft basement, it may be a little bigger than I need but I wanted a stronger motor for a longer life.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. We had a 50 pint capacity unit before this one and drained it directly into a drain. The capacity was not a problem because of the direct drain but the motor did not seem big enough to keep up so we stepped up to the 70 pint unit, also directly drained. The 50 pint worked well but would never bring the humidly down to 45% where we had it set. It ran continuously.
