“I know this defaults to the Windows browser Edge, can Edge be configured to actually show facebook photos? I've had this problem with Edge before and I want to know if this machine will give me the same trouble.”

I don't think so. The problem seems to be with Windows 10 and not the browser.

The configuration and performance of the laptop would not have an effect on what Edge is or is unable to display. That is an issue with Edge.
