Found what appears to be this model on Kingston, which indicates there are 2 slots, both with removable RAM sticks, and that they can be filled up to 32GB. So the HP reply might be the originally tested configuration, but the additional 16GB might be found to be the total acceptable. You might have to inquire/research further for a more definitive answer.

It may not specifically tell you what brand of RAM you have, but it will tell you how many DIMM slots you have. My machine of this same model has two slots. According to the answer above, it is capable of a maximum of 32 GB RAM. You could add two 8GB sticks for 16GB, or two 16GB sticks for 32GB. In most cases, 16GB would be quite sufficient for most users. Remember, it is best to use a matching pair of the same brand and MHz, DDR4, SODMM.

A minor issue, although slightly annoying if it is actually missing, but you could use a USB adapter (inexpensive, but it adds to the area sticking out from the laptop).

As to how user friendly access is to the RAM slots: the best procedure would be to search YouTube for "add RAM to HP 15-fd0005dx/A9PE6UA#ABA." Yes, YouTube isn't just for cat videos; there are a number of excellent videos available on how to do almost anything to almost any computer out there, and you can judge for yourself whether your abilities (and patience) are sufficient.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think you can add to that open slot 16gb memery stick , combined with the 8 already installed to have 24GB or remove the 8gb and replace with 2x16s to have 32gbs its max
