The HP reply is a bit incomplete. Generally speaking, laptops are set up, by default, to go into sleep mode when the lid is closed. This can be changed by opening Control Panel, then Power Settings, and finally "Change what closing the lid does." This is also where the result of pressing the Power or Sleep button can be selected. Depending on which action you are altering, your choices are "Do Nothing," "Sleep," Hibernate," "Shut Down," or "Turn off the display." Once you have made the changes to your liking, they are kept in memory until you change them again (or, sometimes, until you make a major update, such as updating to Windows 12).

If you don't want that, you can press the power button and the computer will discard the data that's in RAM. Now-it won't get rid of the data that you have on the SSD, but it will wipe the RAM.
