• I have not tried it yet, but you might be able to use VLC on Linux to play DVDs. You'll need to research this.

• I don't believe so. If you wanted to play the DVDs on your chromebook, the best option would be to rip/convert them to files and to transfer the files to your Chromebook and use a media player to play them. I believe there was a workaround for this at one point but I don't believe it works any longer.

• ChromeOS only have very limited compatibility with USB CD/DVD drives.
