I have not tried it yet, but you might be able to use VLC on Linux to play DVDs. You'll need to research this.

If you wanted to play the DVDs on your chromebook, the best option would be to rip/convert them to files and to transfer the files to your Chromebook and use a media player to play them. I believe there was a workaround for this at one point but I don't believe it works any longer.
