Hey Mike, thanks for the question on the HP 31 ink bottles. These ink bottles are air-tight and designed not to dry out, as are the tanks in the HP Smart Tank models. So long as the bottles are stored in a stable temperature (5 to 95 degrees Farenheit) and kept properly sealed, they should not dry out. However, as with all printers, we do recommend printing at least once a week in order to keep everything fresh in your printer and to prevent any damage to the printhead.
