• The DeskJet 4133e printer requires the HP Smart App to set up the printer and to utilize its scanning capabilities, other than those items, you do not need the Smart App.

• Yes you have to download an hp printer app in order for the printer to work.

• You may have to to use the scanner. There will a program you can access from a laptop or desktop that is great. We are liking this printer
