I am sorry for the issues you are having with your HP Envy 2-in-1 out of the box. Your best resource would be HP Support directly as they have the expertise to look into why your laptop is heating up under low loads and your battery life is nowhere near the benchmark time.

Turn your screen brightness down, turn off WiFi if you aren't using it, run fewer programs at the same time, down-throttle the CPU, lower the volume: all of these are ways to extend battery life. Also, a new battery/computer should always be conditioned after initial use; information on this can be found on the web.
