• You do not need to hook it up to the wall phone jack for it to work. The phone cord is for faxing. If you aren't faxing (who does anymore) it is not necessary to use the phone jack.

• No, you don't have to hook it up to a phone jack. The phone cord is provided in case you have a landline and would like to use the printer to send and receive faxes.
