Thank you for your question, David! The printer will tell you when you are running low on a particular cartridge, and that's a good time to purchase a replacement. If you connect to the internet and enroll in the Instant Ink program, you won't have to worry about purchasing a cartridge, as a new one will be sent to you automatically whenever it is low.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The printer comes with instant ink. They always auto send ink weeks if not months before you actually need to change it. If you download the app then you can look it up to see how the ink levels are doing. I personally just bought this particular printer but with my other printers the color would start to fade when ink was low. If you don't want to chance it then just change the ink whatever instant ink sends it to you.
