“What are the speaker looking holes on the both sides of the key board? I thought they were speakers but it doesnt seem they are. Are they fan ports?”

Normally you can check the manual from the HP website, but those are the speakers. It also includes speakers on the bottom front. The vents are on bottom side and back. If you look up the manual for the 15-ew0023dx, it is a similar design to that model.
