“PLEASE - can we get a straight-forward answer to this question - If you only want to print in black and white does this printer work when you only use black ink and the color ink cartridges are left empty? My HP 6515 allows this! I don't want color!”

• Good question. Yes, you can print in single cartridge mode on this printer. You have to take the color cartridge out to use single cartridge mode. I hope this helps.

• I know you can tell it to use black ink only but I have only had it a few weeks and have not run out of color ink yet to test your issue.

• You can probably leave the color cartridge in, just put the settings to b/w. Should be pretty simple.

• You can't print white, but yes you can print only black if you choose to do so but then again you must also have colored cartridge in there although it may be empty.
