• Thank you for the question. HP+ has two components, Instant Ink and the free additional year of warranty. Instant Ink is not mandatory; you can purchase retail cartridges if you'd like. The free additional warranty is a choice also. It mandates that you use only genuine HP ink in the printer (whether it's from the Instant Ink service or cartridges that you purchase).
