yes small laptops with powerful CPUs will get hot. Excess heat is a tradeoff for performance. Put some pants on and it won't burn your thighs.

A lot of Outlook apps take more resources I think so runs hotter with them in use perhaps. Typically if just on internet/browsers it stays fairly cool. Thin profile of machine of course means less room inside for air circulation and less casing between your lap and inner components. Not really any different than other laptops I have had.

I returned this machine due to the loose trackpad issue but the heat was unwelcome also. I recommend looking into the Microsoft Surface Book, much better quality.
