• This isn't a Chromebook. Nor is the Mac a Chromebook. Only Chromebooks are Chromebooks. But it is possible to turn off external connections, if you want extra security.

• P.S.: Just cause YOU can't save documents to your Chromebook doesn't mean it can't be done.

• Yes, you'll need to read the instructions that came with the external drive to make sure that you've installed it correctly.
