“Can this mount drop the monitor lower than the surface height, even just a few inches? I want to extend a monitor forward and over the front of a cabinet/counter to 8ish inches "below" the surface it is now sitting on, which is too high.”

AskANotNinja, this is technically possible. However, your cabinet/counter needs to be shallow enough to not interfere with the gas spring arm. If that is the case, you can slide the arm down the pole and have a portion of your monitor sit below the cabinet/counter surface. How far below the surface depends on the size of your monitor and the positioning of the VESA holes on the back.
