You can enable sounds by pressing the up volume key. A status bar will appear and at the end of the status bar will be a gear icon. That gear icon is the settings icon for sound and you should be able to adjust alarm and media sound volume.

Hi There, did you make sure the phone was not in "silent" mode? Touch Settings > Sound > Volume, and drag the slider to the right to make the volume larger than 0.
