“Im upgrading from a Samsung Galaxy S5 to the Huawei Mate9. My Samsung uses a Micro SIM, where as the Mate 9 uses the Nano SIM. How do I go about activating my phone since the Micro SIM doesnt fit in the Huawei? Do I have to go to an ATT store?”

Yep, just head to your carrier and get a new SIM. Some stores / carriers may charge you for the NanoSIM or activation but there are many that will waive the fee. There might be SIM card cutters that look like handheld hole punchers that will cut you current SIM to the right size but if they mess up, you'll need to get a new one.

We did the same -brought it in to T-mobile and they had this little tool and snapped it right in. They had to cut it out and then it worked great

Yes, I think you will have to get a Nano SIM from your carrier.
