A refurbished device doesn't exactly mean there was anything wrong with it. It could have simply been a returned device someone didn't want or wan't happy with. If there was an issue however, refurbished devices are guaranteed to work and meed manufacturer performance specifications as if it were new. They are usually repaired directly by the manufacturer or certified technicians. I have a refurb 64GB and it is literally like new, not even a scuff or scratch anywhere.
